Wrapping Up 2017
As 2017 comes to an end, it’s a great time to take a look back at some of the highlights of the year. It has been quite a busy year, but it’s been really fun to work with students and professionals who are interesting in working in the sports industry. One of the highlights of the year came in October when I had an opportunity to revisit my NFL player roots.
I presented “An Introduction to Careers in Sports” to a group of NFL players as a part of the National Football League’s Bridge to Success program. The program, created and led by the NFL Player Engagement department, is a comprehensive four-day program designed to empower former players and their significant others through their next phase in life. The program provides tools and peer-to-peer support necessary to equip them mentally, emotionally, physically and financially.
It was almost like coming home, as I spent most of my career in sports working with NFL players. I had a great time sharing sports industry insights with a group of over 40 former NFL players and their significant others who are exploring their next career and business opportunities. We discussed the various elements of the sports industry, where to find sports jobs and how to create a personalized action plan to land a job in the sports industry.
One of the next steps I recommended to this group was participating in the upcoming First
Sports Job webinar to explore their options further. I am excited for the players and others who are interested in further exploring careers in the industry. Our first webinar, “7 Ways to Launch Your Sports Career,” will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 7:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. Register here to join us!
