Meet the Organizer – Dawn Ridley, Founder, First Sports Job

We are finally here–today is the final day of registration for the “Introduction to Careers in Sports Business” seminar! I am looking forward to working with an amazing group of students and professionals as we explore the many opportunities in the sports industry. I will work directly with each participant to determine the best strategy to for each attendee to take the first step to their dream career. I am also looking forward to working with the group after the event through individual coaching and in our private career coaching online group. It’s not too late to join us. Register today by midnight at www.FirstSportsJob.com/courses or directly at Eventbrite and we’ll see you on Saturday!

So how did I get here? I landed my first sports job in 1992 with the Atlanta Braves. Since then, I have held positions with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG), the NFL Players Association and Major League Soccer Club D.C. United. I have served as an adjunct professor in Marketing, Brand Management, Sports and Event Management, Sports Marketing and Sports Sales, Sponsorship and Licensing. I have held positions at Johns Hopkins University and George Washington University and I am currently a faculty member at Georgetown University and Rutgers University.

There are hundreds of sports organizations in the U.S. and many ways to get your foot in the door of one of them. My goal is to help others learn from my experiences and the strategies I’ve developed through more than 20 years of following my passion to the work I love. My new passion is not in the stadium or the arena. I am now excited about helping others do what I did back in 1992–land their first job in sports. I’ve spent hundreds of hours in classrooms, presenting at seminars and working one-on-one with people trying to break into sports. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career, and this seminar is an opportunity to continue this work through a new platform.

I am very grateful for the wonderful speakers who have agreed to spend their Saturday with us and I am especially thankful for the amazing First Sports Job team–Adam, Allissa, Chartese, LaShun, Max and Omar–the event would not be the same without their input and support.

We look forward to working with the group on Saturday–and if geography or scheduling prevents you from attending, please stay in touch with us to learn about our online course coming in January 2016!
